CATALOGUING PROJECT
Given the wealth and variety of the art works and monuments belonging to the Opera della Metropolitana, the need became evident to make a detailed catalogue of all this property and render it in digital form for consultation and for handling all the manifold aspects of museum administration. First the works were catalogued according to scientific criteria, and then this catalogue was put online within the museum network using a system that integrates images, data, and updated information about each work. The project was extended to embrace also the choir books on display in the Piccolomini Library and the photo archives. Especially worthy of note is the catalogue of illuminated manuscripts, using software designed and developed specifically for this project. A digital image was made of each page of the thirty manuscripts currently housed in the Piccolomini Library; these can now be consulted online in the library, historical archives, and cultural office of the museum. Available for consultation are more than 7,000 pages and 232 miniatures painted by artists such as Liberale da Verona and Girolamo da Cremona.
